Altered Moments: The Second Lives of Precious Moments Figurines

It's become a hobby, a challenge, and a cottage industry of sorts to take Precious Moments figurines, which were so ubiquitous in the 1980s and '90s, and make them into something else. Many find pleasure in making them into something creepy, bloody, or even sacrilegious in opposition to their cute appearance and innocent poses. Chica & Jo are masters of the art, although they aren't trying to make these figures into the opposite of what they were. Chica uses them as a base for something completely new. Check out this video and see if you can guess where it is going.

My latest altered Precious Moments figurine is my favorite so far. How quickly can you guess who it is? We are huge fans of 80s action movies and Indiana Jones is at the top of the list. We immortalized Indy in the famous idol swap scene feom Raiders of the Lost Ark. Details include the golden idol, bag of sand, leather satchel, and of course his iconic whip! #preciousmoments #notsopreciousmoments #indianajones #raidersofthelostark #harrisonford #ceramicfigurine #alteredart #indianajonesandthedialofdestiny #indianajonesmovie

The figure was later sold, with a tarantula added. Check out another re-do.

You can see more of Chica & Jo's altered Precious Moments figurines at TikTok. At their blog, you'll find even more and advice on doing your own alterations, which they call Altered Moments. And you'll surely want to check out their Facebook group called Altered Moments, where all kinds of artists share the cute, clever, and horrible things they've done to Precious Moments figures. -via Boing Boing
