Bailey Hikawa is an artist in Los Angeles who specializes in fanciful yet also practical household objects. She’s most famous for her line of luxuriously quirky cell phone cases which are comically absurd sculptures. Most recently, she made a scene on the internet and the art world by offering translucent plastic toilet seats with embedded objects, such as hair.
Hikawa sells these seats online, so you don’t have to visit a museum to sit on one. They’re a bit pricey at about $1,200 each. But that’s the price you must pay to really impress your guests.
In an article in Yahoo! News, Hikawa explains that she conceived of this idea from an artistic prompt of homemaking. She wants to bring beauty and respect to a part of the home that is usually disregarded. To make a home is to make a home beautiful.
