Auction Features Drawings by King Charles III

A young child's drawings of his parents deserve a place of honor. For most of us, that's on the refrigerator where everyone in the family can admire it. For a drawing of the queen of the British Empire by a young prince, that place is in a charity auction where it is expected to fetch thousands of pounds. Especially once that young artist becomes the king.

King Charles drew both his parents in the 1950s when he was five or six years old. We would love to see a photo of the queen in a red and yellow striped dress, but most of the photographs from that period are in black and white. This image seen through the eyes of young Charles will be up for auction by Hansons auctioneers on Friday as part of a collection of royal memorabilia. Ten of his childhood drawings will be included in the auction, with proceeds going to an unnamed charity.

The items are from the collection of author and journalist Henry Ramsay Maule, who chronicled the lives of the royal family and was in the process of writing a book about Prince Philip when he died in 1981. The auction will also include letters and cards produced by the family and many photographs that have never been published.

King Charles, now 74, still turns to creating art in his spare time. He finds painting with watercolors to be "relaxing and therapeutic." -via Boing Boing ā€‹
