A stop sign on a south London street was altered by the images of three drones early on Friday. The installation at the corner of Southampton Way and Commercial Way in Peckham was a work by street artist Banksy, which was confirmed in a Banksy social media post by midday. Less than an hour after the work was announced, two men removed the sign and ran off, in front of a small crowd that had gathered, and were even caught on video. The theft was so blatant that people assumed this was performance art by some Banksy associates. But local authorities ascertained that was not the case.
The stop sign was quickly replaced for safety reasons. Meanwhile, police have the video, and it would be almost impossible for the thieves to sell the artwork at this point anyway. -via Digg
