Dave Pollet Modifies Thrift Store Paintings

Dave Pollot, an artist based in New York, has become famous for modifying the paintings of other, far lesser known artists found in secondhand shops. He began this adventure at the prompting of his wife, who loves to shop in thrift stores. Since 2012, he's been modifying the paintings with humorous or pop culture additions to what are normally bucolic landscapes.

Pollot's most recent work has grabbed my attention. He's doing far more than just adding characters to paintings. He's actually tearing the canvas and reshaping the frame to add to the humor. For example, here's a TIE fighter and an X-wing in combat in and through the painting.

Here's Johnny bursting through the wildflowers to ruin this lady's day.

Other paintings are not so much humorous as touching. A gray-dominated night sky can become a starry night when Vincent Van Gogh works with the original artist.
