Television producer Dick Wolf is best known for the Law & Order franchise, but is also behind the Chicago franchise and the FBI franchise, which has him responsible for three nights of prime time shows every week on CBS. But Wolf is also a serious art collector. From the age of eight, he stopped in at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on his way home from school, and was fascinated with what he saw. Now Wolf is paying the Met back for the inspiration he gained there. He has donated 200 works of art from his private collection to the museum. It's quite a Christmas gift!
Collectively known as the Dick Wolf Collection, the donation spans Renaissance to Baroque art created by artists including Artemisia Gentileschi, Botticelli, and Vincent van Gogh. The works are bound for the museum’s European Paintings, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, and Drawings and Prints departments.
In addition, Wolf has endowed two galleries at the Met, which will be named the Dick Wolf Galleries. They will be used for pieces from his collection plus other works from the Met's collection. Read more about Wolf's support for the Met at ArtNet.
