High Fashion Inspired by Iconic Artworks

James Lucas posted a Twitter thread that shows how fashion, namely women's dresses, have long been inspired by famous artworks. The image above shows us the Palladium Dress by Gianfranco Ferré, inspired by a Roman Column. Almost all of the rest are fashioned after paintings.

It seems all too easy to make a dress and stamp it with a print of a famous painting. The dresses that are recreations of other dresses depicted in portraits are more impressive, and the dresses that evoke the feel of the artwork are the cream of the crop.
