Pencil Art by Bashir Sultani

Bashir Sultani, an Afghan-born artist now living in Canada, has become famous for his ephemeral sculptures of people and everyday objects using arrangements of colored salt.

Lately, though, he's also been experimenting with pencils. He uses both colored and ordinary pencils to create layered images of icons that you will recognize, such as this famous scene from The Simpsons in which Homer sinks into the bush that separates his yard from that of Ned Flanders.

Although I haven't seen any direct statements to that effect, Sultani appears to have a deep affection for his homeland, Canada.

His works are essentially relief sculptures. The layers create both three dimensional space as well as color contrasts.

Even emotion is clearly present in Sultani's work. This cat is disappointed in its audience--namely, you.
