With a rich agricultural history (and present), it is fitting that Minnesota places great value upon seed art. Journalist Isabella Segalovich of Hyperallergic attended the seed art display and competition at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul. It is the only state fair seed art competition, but artists travel from out of state to compete. There is. though, a firm rule that makes this a Minnesota-centered event: every seed in ever artwork submitted must be grown within the borders of Minnesota.
Pop culture themes often abound, such as this touching memorial to the lake Paul Reubens. Nicholas Rindo made “I Know You Are…” with 14 different types of seeds.
It's a medium that Rindo has worked before. Here's a previous rendering of Captain Kirk facing off the Gorn captain in the Star Trek episode "Arena."
