The Ever-changing Art of the Pop Sundials by Pierre Brault

The art installation on the side of this building in Paris throws a shadow that says "slow." Watch how it changes at the sun moves across the sky throughout the day.

This is a "pop sundial" by artist Pierre Brault. He uses recycled plexiglass to construct 3D shapes that only matter in the shadows they throw. Some of his installations have a text message, while others use shadows to give movement to figures like a racehorse or a basketball player. Some of Brault's typographical works are only decipherable for a matter of days because of the movement of the sun's arc, but he knows they will return next year. In the meantime, they are abstract art. Brault talk about his inspirations and his procedures for making his pop sundials in an interview at Arch Daily. You'll also see more examples of his colorful yet shadowy facade installations in that post. -via Everlasting Blort ā€‹
