Phil Panza, an artist in Brooklyn, makes furniture, sculptures, and sculptures that serve as functional furniture. The above chair is an example of the latter category. Although it resembles a New York Yankees baseball cap, it’s actually a stool consisting of fabic tufting over a wooden frame. The squatchee pops off to reveal a storage space inside.
Many of Panza’s pieces are collaborations with other artists, such as this chaise lounge shaped like a carrot, which he executed with Gustavo Barroso.
In another project with Barroso, Panza provided the upholstering that looks like the bottom half of a mutilated Mickey Mouse.
