Yukihiro Akama's Whimsical Little Wooden Houses

Don't you just love the shapes and textures of these miniature houses by Yukihiro Akama? You'll also love the reason he began making them. See, Akama is an architect from Japan who moved to the UK in 2011. Architecture in the modern era is hi-tech, and most of the work is done with digital tools. This made Akama feel disconnected from the reality of the buildings he designed, so he started making miniatures in his spare time to feel the building materials and construct them with his own hands. Each design is informed by its organic materials, and the structures resemble the many types of buildings Akama has encountered in his travels. The miniature houses range from 1.5 to 40 inches high.
