The village of Bat Trang near Hanoi in northern Vietnam is a historical center for pottery, dating back to the 11th century. The new Bat Trang Pottery Museum pays homage to that long tradition. Its four stories contain venues for local events and festivals, the museum of pottery history, a showcase for contemporary potters, and workspaces for ceramic artists. There are also spaces for performing arts, a culinary section, and a playground garden on the roof. As you can see, the design of the building itself pays homage to pottery, with terra cotta colored concrete in the shape of pots being made on a potter's wheel. The interior spaces are evocative of a kiln.
The building was designed by 1+1>2 Architects, and you can read more about their vision for the museum at their website. -via Colossal
